Welcome to the information site for the 2016 Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships being held in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The dates of the competition are 17th to 20th November 2016.

Welcome From FeNZ President:

Tēnā koutou Katoa  Nau Mai Haere Mai

It is with pleasure I welcome you all to the 2016 Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships.

The entire New Zealand fencing community is looking forward to welcoming you to Christchurch and to what we know will be a great tournament and experience for all.

Fencing is and fencers are known for their unique expression of individual spirit and determination. Borne from a proud technique and with a proud history, Many will agree Christchurch is well suited to host fencing in all its dimensions and especially next November 2016.

At the time of our competition, it will be a little over six years since the commencement of a series of natural events that resulted in so much devastation and grief for Christchurch. Since those horrific few months Christchurch has shown a unique strength, determination and spirit to get back up and move forward.

From the dust and rubble a new city is emerging. The Christchurch you will experience is unique as a city, able to reform unconstrained by the bricks and mortar that represented its early growth. It can try out new ideas for city creation and of course living. It can and is attracting a new type of city dweller. Christchurch has a great future and you will experience its early neo-beginnings.

I can easily draw parallels between Christchurch’s re-birth and the effort required to remain in top fitness and form as a veteran athlete. I am hoping we will see the same determination and spirit on the CVFC16 pistes (and in the apres-piste events) that you will feel from a visit to Christchurch as it emerges as a re-borne city.

The organising team is putting together a great tournament, huge amounts of entertainment and a superb non-fencer programme. Christchurch City and the NZ sporting powers are providing overwhelming support and encouragement. We are going to have a great event and a great time.

Look out for lots more information to come via this website and after you register.

I look forward to meeting many of you when you are in Christchurch and strongly urge you to dust off your trusty weapon, smarten up your lamé, get your bookings made and start that training programme – you are going to need it!!
