What's On In Christchurch

As a vibrant and ever changing city, Christchurch, the host city of The 2016 Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships has an event calendar that has a number of events that attract visitors from around New Zealand, Australia and the rest of the world that are on around the time of our competition.


New Zealand Cup and Show Week is a vibrant and exciting spring festival that takes place in Christchurch each November. World class racing action features at Riccarton Park Racecourse and Addington Raceway. The festival also celebrates rural life when the country comes to town for three days at the Canterbury Agriculture & Pastoral Show. New Zealand Cup and Show Week is all about the thrill of a win, a night out with friends, getting a taste of rural like at the show , a chance to dress to the nines and to experience Canterbury's excellent food and wind. The week has something for everyone to enjoy and have fund so why not come early and make the most of what this spring festival has to offer!


Canterbury A&P Show is when the town meets the country and is one of the biggest events of its kind in New Zealand. Some of the the major stores in the city relocate to the show grounds for this event eg: Ballentynes, the car dealers and many more. You can see the very old to the very new equipment
used on farms. There is a fair ground, masses of food providers, cooking shows, competitions eg: horse riding, wood chopping, sheep sharing and judging of livestock etc galore, trade show exhibits showing products and regions to visit in New Zealand. 

Friday 11 November 2016 is Show Day and is a public holiday in Christchurch and the Canterbury Region.

Summer Time Events: Mid November 2016 to End of March 2017

Summertimes is a Christchurch City Council initiative that brings events and festivals to the residents and visitors of Christchurch over the summer months. The calendar is always packed full of ways to relax outdoors with family and friends. There is a great diversity of events for all ages, taste and culture. Events produced by the Christchurch City Council are free and accessible to all.
