About New Zealand

New Zealand, the "land of the long white cloud", or Aotearoa, is the country that is home to the city of Christchurch where the 2016 Commonwealth Veteran Fencing Championships will be held.

New Zealand is a country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean consisting of three islands, with the two main islands marked by volcanoes and glaciation. 

New Zealand's capital  is Wellington. Wellington is home to Te Papa Tongarewa, the expansive national museum, Parliament with its iconic building- The Beehive.

Wellington’s dramatic Mt. Victoria, along with the South Island’s Fiordland and Southern Lakes, featured as mythical Middle Earth in Peter Jackson’s "Lord of the Rings" films.

Three quarters of New Zealand's population live in the North Island while the South Island is home to around a quarter of the population. The South Island is known for its amazing scenery, adventure sports, cafes and wineries.
