Competition Format

Individual Competition

There will be two rounds of poules followed by direct elimination.

  • Poule bouts will be to five hits.
  • Direct elimination bouts will be to 10 hits.
  • All competitors will fence in two rounds of combined age group pools
  • Direct elimination will then be fenced by age group. i.e.: 40s, 50s, 60s and 70+
  • After the pools, fencers will be ranked and split according to their age-groups and placed in a separate Direct Elimination (DE) tableaux which will be fenced until a winner of the age-group is decided. However, if there are less than six fencers in a particular age-group, the fencers should be combined with the age-group or age-groups below until there are at least six fencers in the combined group. The combined group will then be placed in a DE tableau according to the ranking after the pools & the DE fenced to its conclusion.
  • The age-group winners will be decided after the combined DE or an additional fence-off carried out where two or more fencers in a particular age-group exit the DE tableau at the same stage.
  • Two third medals will be awarded( ie: 3rd =).
